June 27, 2013: Another day of fun was had by
all! After enjoying our time in Santa
Barbara and our great hotel accommodations we were on our way to the LA area
with the first stop being Hollywood. Looking up at the hillside, we saw the
famous Hollywood sign. With all the bustle of the Hollywood area we decided to
break into our small groups for shopping and lunch. We walked several blocks
taking in the sites to include the Dolby Theater (home of the Oscars) and all of
the stars on the Hollywood walk of fame. We regrouped at the Chinese Theater to
put our shoes and hands in the cement imprints of the famous movie stars
immortalized in front of the theater. Hollywood was hot in comparison to our
coastal city visits but not as muggy as everyone back home in Akron (as we’ve
heard). Leaving Hollywood, we drove over
the mountain to Burbank for our private guided tour of the famous Warner Brothers
Studios. At the studios we broke into four
groups and boarded our trams. Our tour guides went into great detail about the
movies, TV shows, and the buildings, houses and props used in the film industry.
While one group was passing the sound
stages, the lead actor of the TBS TV show Sullivan and Son, Steve Byrne (an
alumni of Kent State), invited the group to the set of the show as rehearsal
was wrapping up. He graciously invited everyone to take his picture (breaking
the rule of no cameras) and gave some a signed autograph copy of the full script
they were rehearsing. Just as exciting
for all of us was a tour of the sets of the Big Bang Theory and the Mentalist,
concluding with a tour of the Warner Brothers Museum which had a whole floor
dedicated to the Harry Potter Films. The
singers were surprised with a stop in Chinatown in LA for a great group dinner.
And how do we thank great wait staff?
With a song of course!
